Seattle, Washington, May 11th, 2017 – Boeing [NYSE: BA], Air Lease Corporation and Primera Air today announce a commitment for acquisition and lease of twenty 737 MAX 9 ER airplanes. Boeing looks forward to working with Primera Air to launch this new aircraft type that will change the economics of the industry in terms of long haul flights.
The 737 MAX 9 will form the backbone of the Scandinavian low-cost airline’s future business as it seeks to commence flights between Europe and North America. The new 737 MAX 9 airplanes will be larger than the Next-Generation 737s currently being operated by Primera Air, offering greater range and the lowest seat-mile cost to accommodate long-haul flights that will connect destinations in Europe to the east coast of the U.S.
“[This new aircraft type will be a game changer for the industry where Primera Air will now be able to open up long haul routes from Europe to the US with unmatched economics. This aircraft has lower per seat cost than the current wide body aircraft servicing the transatlantic, and the capabilities of this new aircraft type will change the economics of the industry. This will open fantastic growth possibilities for Primera Air in the future and we are very proud to be the launch customer for Boeing for this aircraft type. [Andri M. Ingolfsson], [President], Primera Air Scandinavia.
The 737 MAX incorporates the latest technology CFM International LEAP-1B engines, Advanced Technology winglets and other improvements to deliver the highest efficiency, greater range, reliability and passenger comfort in the single-aisle market. The 737 MAX will be 14 percent more fuel-efficient than today's most efficient Next-Generation 737s – and 20 percent better than the original Next-Generation 737s when they first entered service.
"Primera Air’s commitment is a major endorsement to the 737 MAX 9 and its ability to serve new transatlantic markets,” said Monty Oliver, senior vice president Global Sales, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "The MAX 9 will provide Primera Air unmatched efficiency, range, reliability and operating costs, while continuing to provide a premium on-board experience for its passengers.”
Primera Air is an all-Boeing carrier currently operating a fleet of Next-Generation 737-700s and 737-800s with flights to more than 70 airports in Europe. Primera Air is based in Denmark and Latvia, and is part of the Primera Travel Group that operates travel agencies and tour operating companies in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Iceland and Estonia.
